Introducing the Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX: The Pinnacle of Electric Efficiency and Range

3 min

The new Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX concept car redefines electric vehicle efficiency and range, boasting the capability of covering 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on a single charge. This cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) incorporates state-of-the-art propulsion efficiency, energy density, aerodynamics, and lightweight design, providing a glimpse into the future of electric mobility.

A Futuristic Design and Sustainable Interior

The daring design of the VISION EQXX instantly captures attention. Its finely sculpted body achieves an impressive aerodynamic coefficient of just 0.178 drag resistance. To further enhance efficiency, the vehicle features magnesium wheels wrapped in low rolling resistance tires. The interior is crafted from eco-friendly, recycled materials used in door panels, floor mats, and upholstery made of synthetic leather.

Record-Breaking Efficiency and Innovative Engineering

Mercedes-Benz’s expertise and Formula 1-inspired engineering have led to an astounding energy consumption rate of less than 10 kWh per 100 km. The VISION EQXX’s battery pack stores almost 100 kWh of energy yet occupies 50% less volume and weighs 30% less than the reference battery pack in the Mercedes-Benz EQS model. The use of innovative, recycled, and plant-based materials reduces waste and lowers the carbon footprint.

A Pioneer Collaboration for Electric Mobility

A groundbreaking team from Mercedes-Benz collaborated with High Performance Powertrains (HPP) and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix (MGP) to develop a compact, highly efficient electric drivetrain and lightweight battery case. The engineers, inspired by natural shapes and partnering with innovative startups, employed advanced digital tools to minimize weight and waste by eliminating excess material through 3D printing.

Optimized Aerodynamics and Lightweight Components

The ultra-low rolling resistance tires, designed with optimized aerodynamic geometry, are combined with lightweight magnesium wheels to further extend the vehicle’s range. Additionally, lightweight aluminum alloy brake discs perfectly complement the VISION EQXX and help keep the overall weight low. Ultra-thin roof panels provide up to 25 km (15.5 miles) of additional range by powering the battery system.

An Intuitive User Interface and Enhanced Driving Experience

The VISION EQXX’s intelligent and intuitive user interface provides guidance and assistance for efficient driving, bringing harmony to the electric era. This electric concept vehicle accelerates Mercedes-Benz’s ambition to “lead in electromobility” and set new benchmarks in sustainable mobility.

While the VISION EQXX is currently a concept car, it is expected to make its debut in 2025. This prototype is part of a program that can rapidly adapt innovative technologies for mass production, showcasing Mercedes-Benz’s transformation into a fully electric and software-based company. This software-driven approach is crucial for achieving efficiency goals and fast development processes, including an innovative battery management system.
